Now and the future
As Keeshonds are numerically a small breed with very small gene pool it is imperative that this beautiful breed is kept in good order for the enjoyment of future generations.
With veterinary science now rapidly moving into the realms of DNA, exciting times are approaching. As this new era dawns it is foreseen that there will come a time, with the testing of all breeding stock, when breeding programmes can be implemented in the knowledge that the mistakes of the past will not be repeated. A number of breeds already have tests available and they are well on the way to eliminating inherited disease from their breeds.
